CANSKATE

CanSkate is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, CanSkate centres on physical literacy and the fundamental skills needed to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity. It is for beginners of all ages, children or adults, as well as for those wishing to improve their basic skills whether their focus is for figure skating, hockey, speed skating or just skating for fun. It is taught by NCCP-trained professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants. Canskate is a complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. CanSkate uses nationally-tested and proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

PRE-CANSKATE is a learn to skate program for new or beginner skaters ages 3+ who still require assistance on the ice. (Needs help to stand up when they fall down, hold a helpers hand, etc.)

CANSKATE is a learn to skate program for skaters age 3+ who are able to get up on their own when they fall down and can skate or move around the perimeter of the ice on their own.

ADVANCED CANSKATE gives skaters who are working on stages 5 and 6 the opportunity to continue with their CanSkate badges in a smaller group environment with one on one coaching. They also have the option of requesting private lessons.
